Unfortunately Kenowa cancelled due to the weather. We will still be practicing like normal from 3-5. If nothing else, just wear game gear!
Way to go on the 1-0 win over Coopersville yesterday! It was a very nice goal by Melinda Overbeek with a lot of help from Madi Alexander... great TEAMWORK! We started off the season keeping our goals intact, ladies... keep it up! Another big game tomorrow at Kenowa. Make sure you are physically and mentally prepared to play again, and that you are equipped regardless of the weather (they are calling for some light rain in the afternoon... possible Tstorms and heavy rain in the morning) so that we can keep the momentum up! I absolutely loved all of the short crisp passes that you made to one another... keep that going, Hawkeyes! Way to go!
Despite VERY cold temperatures, we are going to play our game tonight. There will be no introductions / announcements, there will be a shortened half-time, we won't videotape the JV game, and part of our warm-up will be indoors, but we will still play. We need to take steps in preventing injury today, so we also need to be very sure that we are stretching well before the game and keeping warm. If anyone has blankets or Parka's for the sideline, that would be a great idea! Parents, you might want to think about bringing that kind of stuff for your daughter as well! Varsity girls, please meet in my classroom by 4 (there will be food in my classroom at 3 though, so the more the merrier!). We will go over a few things during the JV game and then start our warm-up indoors.
YAY! Get pumped, Ladies! Our first real game of the season is tomorrow against Coopersville. Please be at the field by 4pm (sharp) to support the JV team until halftime. If you are ball girl / videographer / snack, you should be to the field by 3:45pm. We are planning on wearing white tomorrow, but bring both jerseys just incase our plans change. (if our field is not yet ready, we may need to leave for Coopersville right after school.) Remember that if you need tape for your shinguards it must be WHITE as well!
Get pumped, ladies! What a nice 2-0 win over Muskegon Catholic! We were up 1-0 at the half with our first goal being scored by Madi Alexander. We got off on the right track with our goal of never giving up a first half lead with our second goal in the second half scored by Yazmine Schultz, assisted by Madi Alexander. Both keepers shared the shutout in this game, and our defense did a very nice job of keeping them to very few chances. Way to go, ladies! Now we need to prepare for our first real game of the season against Coopersville.
Way to go on the first game today, ladies! It's nice to start the day with a win! 2-1 win over Big Rapids with both goals being scored by Madi Alexander. Leanne VanDenBerg was responsible for the first assist, and Melinda Overbeek was responsible for the second assist. Our team played a ton better than on Thursday... Way to work, ladies!
Like I said after the scrimmage last night, ladies... DON'T WORRY AT ALL ABOUT THE 3-0 LOSS to Zeeland East. That scrimmage was a great way to get us to condition, play together, try different positions, discover some strengths, and to experience where our weaknesses are as well. I was impressed with our first half overall, and although we let down a bit in the second, I was also trying people at places they've never been before. Again... NOTHING to worry about / be concerned with / even THINK about. One thing I loved about last night was that it got people asking questions. You experienced a certain amount of confusion within your position last night and it caused people to ask the question, "well what do I do when...". We need to carry that on into practice today as we go over some questions about positioning and / or positional job descriptions. Because you experienced a taste of it yesterday, today should make more sense to you and be of more relevance. Hopefully it is a time to connect some of the dots.
One thing I did notice yesterday is that we still need to be in better terms of our overall fitness / conditioning level. The Zeeland girls were running circles around us in that second half, and I think a lot of it is just that we are not field-ready. Today and tomorrow will certainly help, but we need to be sure we are doing all we can in the area of fitness and conditioning in order to improve throughout this season. That goes from our goalies all the way up the field to our forwards. Remember... conditioning is a privilege:) I know that thought got some laughs in the past, but in all seriousness, it is the truth! If you want to be a better athlete, if you want to win, and if you want to look good on the field in general, you need to be in better physical condition than the person you are up against... that doesn't happen without a lot of really hard work. You know my husband and I are MSU fans, but we certainly have a lot of respect for good coaching and strong programming. Michigan's new football coach, Jim Harbaugh, has some really great words that fit in to the philosophy of conditioning being a privilege. Mgoblog had this to say of one of Harbaugh's recent practices... "When practice was over Harbaugh brought the team around him and awarded the day to the defense. As a reward he told them they had to run while the offense watched because “here, the winners are the ones that earn the opportunity to get better.” See, guys... it's not just YOUR coaches that are crazy! Let's get better at practice today and get ready for our scrimmages tomorrow. Remember, 3-5 practice today, meeting in my classroom dressed and ready at 3. Team dinner is directly after practice at our house, (52 W. 18th) and we'll be having pizza and salad. I know... super healthy! :( You should expect to be picked up / taken home between 6:30 and 7:00pm tonight! Tomorrow you will need to be at GVSU by 8:15 at the Lower South Field. We will meet there (you can't miss our bright yellow warm-ups... right!?) Bring both jerseys, but please wear your blacks, as I am hopeful they will let us wear that jersey for both games. Technically we are HOME for our first game, but Big Rapids has all red uniforms for their away jerseys so I am hopeful we can get away with it:) See you at the field at 8:15! |
